What is  the Roots blower?

The Roots blower is a positive displacement blower that separates the inlet and outlet through the "meshing" of a pair of rotors (there is a gap between the rotors, but not in contact with each other). The rotor is driven by a pair of synchronous gears and moves in the opposite direction to push the inhaled gas from the suction port to the exhaust port without internal compression.

Intake: When the Roots blower starts to operate, the two vane rotors rotate relative to each other in the cylinder. When the blades of the rotor are separated from the cylinder wall, an expanded volume is formed, allowing gas to enter the blower through the air intake.

Compression: As the rotor continues to rotate, the volume gradually decreases, so that the gas is compressed between the rotor blade and the cylinder wall. As the volume decreases, the gas is compressed and the pressure increases.

Exhaust: When the compression is complete, the compressed gas is discharged through the exhaust port. At this point, the blades of the two rotors are separated again, forming an expanded volume to prepare for the next round of intake.

The basic structure of Roots blower

Roots fan is mainly composed of casing, impeller, drive shaft, gear, bearing and so on.

An impeller is usually composed of two or more intermeshing impellers, one of which is called the main impeller and the other is called the slave impeller. The gear shape and size of the main and secondary impeller are the same, and rotation is achieved by engaging the gear.

Roots blowers usually use two types of bearings: main bearings and slave bearings. It is mainly used to support and position the drive shaft of Roots blowers to reduce friction and vibration and to ensure smooth rotation of the shaft.
